Why write a Deputy’s Blog?

dudleyowenDeputy's Blog 2016

I’m in the habit of writing for others.  I never write for myself unless it’s lists, DIY lists for home, action lists for work, shopping lists for food, packing lists for holidays, menu lists for parties….you name it, a busy lady loves lists! I’m not a habitual diary or blog writer but I think that an essential part of my new rôle as a people’s Deputy definitely warrants a regular update on what I’m doing.  After all it’s you (or to be precise 1,940 of you) who put me here and you have an absolute right – even those who didn’t vote for me (maybe next time?) to know what I’m up to.

I want to make the States business accessible to you all – not in a way that the media might, as I’m not a journalist – but in a personal way, to share with you my experiences and opinions. You can read and listen ad infinitum about what’s gone on in the Press or the Radio, but to get an insider’s view is rare unless it’s batting away criticism on social media. I believe strongly that in order to rebuild the trust back in the States we must bring the people of Guernsey with us on the journey.  We must get your buy in to what we are doing otherwise we will make the same mistakes as before. I’ll do this by updating this blog regularly, to take you through the decisions on the table and the decisions (and rationale) made at our States Meetings.

I’ll also add details periodically about other work that I’m doing either in the District or as part of any Committees that I might be lucky enough to sit on.

Another way that I want to let you know how things are going, is by our soon to be re-instated Western Parishes Deputies “Drop in” (don’t quote me on that catchy title it might change!). I’ve organised this and with my fellow Deputies in the West, we’ll host a once monthly meet with Parishioners, which I hope will start early June…watch this space for dates, times & place.

Also when I’m out and about – those of you who know me, will also know that I love to chat, so am always receptive to questions – though if I’m with my kids, we may have to schedule another time if you have a specific issue as their patience level for Mummy chatting is about Zero!  My contact details are here for you if you want to call or email – please don’t be shy and I’ll try to get back to you within a day or two.
